Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Improvements.

32.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to an application for a building extension to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 3.

My Department has received from the chairperson of the board of management a revised sketch scheme for the proposed extension to the school referred to by the Deputy. The proposal also include improvements to the existing school buildings. My Department will as soon as possible convey to the chairperson a decision in relation to the proposals with a view to agreement on a local contribution towards the cost of approved works and the formal sanction of a grant for the project.

35.

asked the Minister for Education when the necessary finance will be available to build an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; the amount of money that will be available; the date on which work will commence, and if he will make a statement on this matter.

(i) The specific allocation of finance for a school project does not arise until a much more advanced stage has been reached in the design procedures. (ii) The total estimated capital cost of this school extension is£910,000. (iii) It is not possible to indicate now when building work will be commenced. (iv) Examination of the outline sketch scheme submitted is nearing completion in My Department. My Department should be in a position to authorise the preparation of Developed Sketch Scheme (Stage 3) in the near future.
