asked the Minister for Health the provision he is making for research into the causes of cot deaths (SIDS) in this country.

In 1978 the Medico-Social Research Board, at the request of the Department of Health, were asked to consider research in this area. A study commenced in 1979 in the Dublin area over a two year period, and a report was subsequently published. Since then, the board have continued to monitor the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in the Eastern Health Board Area.
