Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

90.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

Following investigation, the unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that, by failing to furnish details of his means, he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit.

He appealed against this decision and in July 1986 an appeals officer also disallowed his claim. He continued to sign the unemployed register.

On 25 September 1986, he asked for his claim to be reviewed and his papers were referred to a social welfare officer for reinvestigation of means. These inquiries will be completed as soon as possible and his case will then be submitted to a deciding officer for assessment of his means.

The entitlement of the person concerned to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of that assessment.

It is understood that the person concerned is in receipt of supplementary welfare allowance from the health board.

91.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision on an appeal for disablement benefit will be made known for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow.

The person concerned was awarded disablement benefit from 23 April 1982 in respect of an accident at work.

Following his last medical examination on 18 June 1986 the extent of his disablement was provisionally assessed at 15 per cent for the period 11 July 1986 to 10 January 1987.

The claimant has appealed against this assessment and the matter has been referred to the appeals officer who proposes to hold an oral hearing as soon as possible. The person concerned will be advised of the arrangements for the hearing in due course.

92.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the appeal of a person (details supplied) in County Louth against the disallowance of disability benefit will be heard.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 26 July 1986 after which date payment was disallowed following examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that she was capable of work. She appealed against the disallowance of benefit and was examined by a different medical referee on 18 September 1986 who also expressed the opinion that she was capable of work.

Her appeal has been referred to an appeals officer who proposes to hold an oral hearing of her claim as soon as possible.

Question No. 93 withdrawn.
