This measure will expire on 31 December 1986 in accordance with the EC Regulation. Therefore, all approved drainage works must be completed by 1 December 1986 in order to be certified and paid for this year. The Department has no discretion to pay for works completed after the deadline of 31 December. The EC Commission has been asked to extend the regulation and discussions are taking place with a view to ensuring that grants are payable for projects approved and commenced before 31 December 1986. No assurance can be given at this stage that the Commission will agree to the proposals.
