Vol. 370 No. 2

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant Scheme.

187.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the maximum higher education grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Under the means test tables of the 1986 higher education grants scheme, i.e. the scheme applicable in this case, the reckonable income in order to qualify for the maximum grant to cover fees and maintenance may not exceed £13,352 where there are five dependent children in the family. As it is understood from Galway County Council, the body administering the scheme in this case, that the reckonable income in the case exceeds this limit, the applicant does not qualify for any maintenance element of a higher education grant. However, the applicant does qualify for the award of a full fee grant in respect of her studies on the basis of the reckonable parental income.
