Vol. 370 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fish Processing Industry.

27.

asked the Taoiseach the output in tonnes and the value in £IR of the Irish fish processing firms from each of the years 1984 to 1986 inclusive.

The most recent comprehensive information in respect of the fish processing industry is available from the Census of Industrial Production for 1983. In that year, the value of total gross output for the industry was £62.8 million. Corresponding information on tonnage processed is not available.

The value of output for the years 1984 and 1985 is estimated at £63.9 million and £83 million, respectively, using industrial production volume and price indices. The corresponding value for the first six months of 1986 is similarly estimated to be £31.8 million, which compares with a value of £42.6 million for the corresponding six months of 1985.
