asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the very serious unemployment problem in Listowel, County Kerry, he will declare it an unemployment black spot; and if he will ask the IDA to take urgent action to secure a suitable industry for the vacant factory they have in the town.

Limerick East): I am aware of the unemployment problem in Listowel and I can assure the Deputy that the Industrial Development Authority, who have statutory authority for the promotion of industrial development, are vigorously promoting the town for suitable industrial projects. They are actively seeking a suitable project for the advance factory in the town which has been visited by a number of industrialists this year. Manufacturing employment in the town has in fact steadily increased in the past few years as the following table shows:
