Vol. 370 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ewe Premium Scheme.

154.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when he proposes to pay the £5 per ewe promised to farmers in the disadvantaged areas, who have had severe losses because of bad weather.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the advance payable to applicants in the disadvantaged areas under the EC ewe premium scheme, which was set originally at £4.80.

The actual advance to be made will be at least £9. Payments should commence in December provided the necessary EC approval is received by that time.

155.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange payment of a ewe premium of £3,000 to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

The person named is not the applicant for grants under the 1985 ewe premium or 1986 sheep headage schemes but his father is.

His father was paid the advance of the 1985 ewe premium on 28 January 1986 and he will also be paid the balance of the 1985 ewe premium, the 1986 sheep headage and his 1986 calf premium grants shortly.

The applications of the person named for 1986 cattle headage, 1986 suckler cow and 1986 calf premium are being processed at present. If he is deemed eligible under these schemes he will be paid all these grants when the batches which include his payments are processed.
