Vol. 370 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Gas Authority Establishment.

32.

asked the Minister for Energy if, in view of the collapse of Dublin Gas, the Government will consider the establishment of a national gas authority which would have sole responsibility for the sale and distribution of all piped gas to domestic and commercial consumers, in the same way as the ESB have overall responsibility for electricity; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

For some time past it has been my view that an integrated approach to the gas industry is probably the best course to adopt, and this has been strengthened by the events relating to Dublin Gas. I hope to complete my review of this matter in the near future and to make a statement about the conclusions reached.
