Vol. 370 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Weather Damage Relief Scheme.

46.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money available to South Tipperary for flood damage; the amount available to owners of private houses which were recently damaged by flooding.

Tipperary (South Riding) County Council have been notified of a road grant allocation of £96,500 towards the cost of remedial works on public roads (including bridges) arising from the damage caused by flooding on 25-26 August 1986. In accordance with the practice adopted with local authorities generally, the amount of the grant in this case was determined on the basis of the full approved cost of the repair-replacement of bridges and of 75 per cent to 100 per cent of the approved cost of other road works. The approved cost was calculated by the Department on the basis of a submission made by the local authority.

In relation to the second part of the question I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 58 of 23 October 1986. The local authority are aware of the availability of assistance as set out in that reply and it would be a matter for them to consider individual cases of damage to houses through flooding. Recent representations by the Deputy have been brought to the attention of the local authority.
