Vol. 370 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Licence.

38.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a driving licence will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who has forwarded the appropriate doctor's certificate.

I understand from the licensing authority concerned that the person in question (whose previous licence expired on 31 October, 1986) is now 70 years of age. Persons aged 70 years or over must submit a certificate of fitness with an application for a driving licence. An application for a certificate of fitness must be made to my Department accompanied by a medical report. The necessary application and medical report forms are available at Motor Taxation Offices and Garda stations. Subject to the medical report being satisfactory, a certificate of fitness normally issues within four or five days of receipt of an application.

My Department have been unable to find any record of the receipt of such an application from the person in question, however, in order to be as helpful as possible, I have arranged for the necessary forms to be sent under separate cover to the Deputy. On receipt of a completed application from the person, together with a satisfactory medical report, a certificate of fitness will issue to him without delay.
