Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - Oireachtas Committee Reports.

34.

asked the Taoiseach the number of reports produced by each of the Joint Committees of the Oireachtas, and the number which have been debated in relation to each committee by the Dáil to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number and subject matter of reports produced by each of the Oireachtas Committees since the commencement of the present Dáil is given in the reply to Question No. 22 of 25 November 1986. There has been no change since then.

The Dáil has debated 15 of those reports to date, as follows:

Reports of

No. debated

Committee on Public Expenditure

9

Select Committee on Crime. Lawlessness and Vandalism

3

Joint Committee on the Secondary Legislation of the European Communities

Joint Committee on Marriage Breakdown

1

Joint Committee on Small Businesses

*The debate in question was on the Report of the Dooge Committee on European Union. The Joint Committee had presented a Report on the Draft Treaty on the European Union.

A motion passed by the House on 20 November provides, on an experimental basis, an extra two hours each week to debate reports. This is intended to remedy the situation whereby difficulties were experienced in providing time for Dáil debate on committee reports.
