Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - Galway Housing Programme.

79.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the hold up in the acquisition of demountable dwellings and contracts for the construction of local authority houses in Galway pending a capital allocation from his Department.

80.

asked the Minister for the Environment if an allocation of money could be provided especially for the building of rural houses in County Galway.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 79 and 80 together.

Galway County Council were allocated a sum of £3,650,000 to meet existing commitments on their local authority housing programme in 1986. These included 31 rural cottages in progress and eight new demountables provided at 31 May 1986. A further allocation of £500,000 has now been made available to the council for this year's housing programme which now includes a total of 53 rural cottages. I understand that the demand for demountable dwellings can be met by relocation of existing stock. A final review of the capital requirements of all authorities is now under way.
