Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Atmospheric Pollution Levels.

94.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will comment on recent studies relating to atmospheric pollution levels in Dublin city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the question relates to the monthly reports on atmospheric pollution which have been published by Dublin Corporation since the beginning of this year.

The most important indication arising from these, and from the detailed monitoring of air quality carried out in Dublin, is that exceedances of EC limit values for smoke have again occurred at several locations during the 1985-86 winter. Under the relevant EC directive, this situation will have to be remedied definitively by 1993. The Air Pollution Bill, 1986, will provide a framework within which this can be achieved.
