Vol. 370 No. 5

Written Answers. - VAT Refunds.

111.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated amount of VAT refunds filed by claimants as at 30 September 1986 and unpaid by the Revenue Commissioners as at that date.

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics available regarding the position of taxable periods in the years 1984, 1985 and 1986 as at 30 September, 1986 show, that of a total of £2,020 million repayable VAT claimed by traders in respect of the periods involved, £89 million was unpaid. I would point out that this amount would not necessarily become due for payment since a proportion would be disallowed in the process of clearance.
