asked the Minister for Agriculture the amount of departmental levies being collected in meat plants on cattle, sheep, and pigs; the total amount collected on (a) cattle, (b) sheep, and (c) pigs for the 12 months up to 1 November 1986; and the purpose for which these levies are being used.

The information requested is as follows:

Moneys collected are paid into the Exchequer. Receipts from the bovine disease levy are taken into account in settling the annual allocation for bovine disease eradication while the meat inspection fees defray part of the cost of providing a veterinary inspection service at meat export plants.
