Vol. 370 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Negligent and Drunken Driving.

13.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he plans to introduce mandatory sentencing in cases of death caused by negligent driving.

28.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to review the law on drunken driving especially in cases involving a death; and if he considers that further mandatory penalties might prove effective in reducing the carnage on our roads.

I propose to take Question Nos. 13 and 28 together.

The road traffic law is currently under review in the context of a Road Traffic Bill which I intend to bring before the House in 1987, and I am prepared to consider any submissions or views which may be relevant in that regard.
