Vol. 370 No. 6

Written Answers. - Drogheda VEC Allocation.

80.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make an allocation of funds to Drogheda VEC with reference to their application under the Special Projects for the Promotion of Youth and Sport Services at local level in 1986; if he is aware of the work of the Board of Management, Augustinian Priory Shop at Drogheda, on behalf of young people; if he is aware that they have raised substantial moneys by voluntary means to carry out reconstruction and other work in conjunction with the VEC; and when he will make any such allocation and the amount.

A sum of £550 was paid to the Town of Drogheda Vocational Education Committee on 7 November 1986 towards the cost of special projects in the field of youth and sport. An application for capital grant assitance, under the face-lift grant scheme, towards development works at the Augustinian Youth Centre, Bachelors Lane, Drogheda, was received on 30 December 1985.

This project was not among the limited number allocated financial assistance this year in accordance with the requirements and conditions of the scheme. In view of the great number of capital grant applications for consideration by my Department and pending decision in regard to the financial provision for this service — particularly in relation to the availability of funds for new projects — for the coming year, it is not open to me at present to make a commitment to allocate a grant in respect of any further projects.
