Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Testing.

178.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider implementing a 60 day test in relation to brucellosis.

The requirements regarding the brucellosis pre-movement test are laid down in Council Directive 64/432/EEC which stipulates that, both for internal movement (other than directly for slaughter) and for export to other member states, animals must undergo the test within 30 days prior to such movement. Having regard to the need to preserve the recently acquired officially brucellosis free status of the national herd and the trading advantages which this status bestows, it would not be my intention to seek to have these requirements changed.
