Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Course Fishing Development.

36.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the plans he has for the development of coarse fishing in the lakes of Cavan and Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Fisheries Act, 1980, the Regional Fisheries Boards have primary responsibility for the development of coarse fishing in their respective areas. The Cavan-Monaghan area which is in the upper reaches of the River Erne catchment is the responsibility of the Northern Regional Fisheries Board. The board has an ongoing programme of development works in this area which includes the construction of stands, stiles, footbridges, pathways and weeds clearance. There are adequate stocks of coarse fish in the waters in this area at present.
