Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Kerry Fish Farming Licence Applications.

58.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he will give details of the applications received in his Department from individuals and companies for licences for fish farming in County Kerry; and if he will state the position in each case.

Licences for fish farming are issued under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, following the designation of areas within which it will be lawful to engage in aquaculture. Only the Ventry Harbour and Trabeg areas in County Kerry have so far been designated.

My Department has on hand 66 applications for fish farming licences in County Kerry. Of these 38 refer to shellfish projects and 28 refer to salmonid projects. No licences have issued to date under the section.
