Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Restoration of Coach.

64.

asked the Taoiseach if he will consider placing a coach associated with Daniel O'Connell, the Liberator, at Johnstown Castle, County Wexford, where the coach could be refurbished; and if he will make a statement on the present condition of the coach.

Structurally the coach is in good condition but the material in which it is upholstered or covered is in need of restoration. Arrangements are being made for such restoration as is deemed appropriate to be carried out at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham with the co-operation of AnCO. Afterwards, it is intended to put the coach on display at the Royal Hospital in a building refurbished specifically for the exhibition of the coaches in the national collection. The question of temporary exhibition of the restored coach in other appropriate centres will also be considered.
