Vol. 370 No. 10

Written Answers. - Oilseed Rape.

100.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the proposals if any, he has for increasing the acreage of oilseed rape.

Oilseed rape is now recognised as a viable break-crop and 3,700 hectares were sown this year. It is supported through the Common Agricultural Policy with a subsidy of some £248 per tonne for crushing or incorporation in animal feed. The Department of Agriculture carry out trials to select the best varieties for our conditions and the sowing of the crop is encouraged by ACOT in their advisory programmes.
