Vol. 370 No. 11

Written Answers. - Clogheen (Cork) National School.

78.

asked the Minister for Education the reason he did not approve an extra classroom for Clogheen national school at this time as requested by the board of management; and if the board submitted the necessary figures and projections in support of the request.

The Clogheen national school, County Cork, has seven teachers, including the principal, and the new school recently provided with grant-aid from my Department comprises seven classrooms and a general purposes area. Present enrolments fall short of the numbers required to justify grant-aiding the provisions of an eight classroom and it is not my Department's practice to grant-aid the provision of permanent school accommodation before the need for it is established. Enrolments in this school will be kept under review and if circumstances later so warrant, the application for grant-aid towards the cost of an extra classroom will be reconsidered.
