The North Eastern Health Board has the responsibility for providing health services in Counties Cavan, Louth, Meath and Monaghan. A single allocation is notified to the board each year. Allocations are not determined on a county basis.
The overall allocation notified to the board for each of the years is as follows:—

The 1986 allocation falls to be revised in respect of the cost of approved pay increases, including the 25th Round, and other approvals. In addition to the direct services of the board, services are also provided on its behalf by the voluntary and joint board hospitals and homes for the mentally handicapped. The cost of providing services in these institutions for patients from the board's area in 1986 is estimated to be £25.5 million.

Health capital expenditure on general hospitals in County Louth in the period from 1 January 1982 to date was of the order of £3,946,000. This total includes about £695,000 in respect of equipment.
