Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payment Claim.

292.

asked the Minister for Labour if a claim for redundancy payment has been made to his Department in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick who was recently made redundant.

My Department has no record of any claim for a redundancy payment having been made to it in respect of the person in question. I should explain that payment of a statutory redundancy lump sum is the responsibility of the employer concerned in the first instance and only if the employer fails or refuses to pay a lump sum which is established as due to the employee does the question arise of payment by my Department from the redundancy and employers' insolvency fund. If the person referred to in the question considers that he is due a statutory redundancy lump sum he should first of all approach his former employer about the matter.
