Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - Orthodontist's Appointment.

23.

asked the Minister for Health the reason the appointment of an orthodontist to the health centres at Larkhill/Drumcondra/Marino, Dublin has not been made, as treatment has not been available to children at these centres since 1984.

Routine orthodontic treatment is provided by health board dental staff at local health centres. At present about 250 children are undergoing routine orthodontic treatment in the Marino/Larkhill/Drumcondra area. In the case of more complicated orthodontic conditions requiring specialist attention, the Eastern Health Board have advertised a post of consultant orthodontist on several occasions over the past few years without success. However, the health board have recently concluded an arrangement with the Dublin Dental Hospital for the provision of complicated orthodontic treatment for eligible persons by staff who are in the process of recruitment.
