Vol. 370 No. 14

Written Answers. - Tax Revenue.

69.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated amount of money due by the Revenue Commissioners to individuals and companies under the various classes of tax including PAYE, corporation profits tax and VAT; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that establishing the amount of money due to individuals and companies at a particular date in respect of the taxes under their care and management would involve, in relation to the date in question, a large number of processes such as examination of accounts, computation of income, verifying entitlement to reliefs and allowances, the valuation of assets and other procedures in the field of capital taxes and the quantification of any excess of payments over liabilities in particular cases. In view of the magnitude and diversity of these tasks and the very large number of cases which would have to be reviewed, it is regretted that the work involved in providing the information sought by the Deputy could not be undertaken within the constraints imposed by the limited resources available to the Revenue Commissioners.
