Vol. 370 No. 15

Written Answers. - Louth Grants Allocations.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the amount of finance allocated from his Department to County Louth for the last five years by way of capital grants allocation and other financial allocations.

Limerick East): The only moneys paid from the Vote of my Department to County Louth in the past five years were in respect of food subsidy payments. Records of such payments are not kept on a county basis and in view of the number of payments paid each year, I consider that the information sought by the Deputy could only be compiled by the expenditure of staff time which would be out of proportion to the results achieved. In addition, I would point out that these are consumer subsidies, and that the products manufactured in a particular county are not necessarily consumed in the same county.

I would also mention that expenditure by State agencies under my aegis would also have involved the provision of financial assistance in the County Louth area.

In addition a sum of £149,487 was paid to Thomas McArdle Limited, Dundalk, from the Employment Guarantee Fund, in 1982.
