Vol. 370 No. 15

Written Answers. - Shannon Town Transfer.

47.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps, if any, which have been taken to implement the Government decision of 1984 to transfer Shannon town from SFADCo to Clare County Council; and when he expects the decision will be finally implemented.

Limerick East): Detailed discussions on the transfer of Shannon Town to Clare County Council have taken place, the conclusions of which are that it is necessary for SFADCo and the council to jointly commission a technical survey of the condition of the many services and properties to be transferred to identify remedial works that ought to be carried out before the transfer.

Shannon Development are dealing with the matter as expeditiously as possible but it must be recognised that the process of handover is exceedingly complex, with major and difficult issues to be resolved if the transfer is to be completed effectively and to the best advantage of the town and its residents.
