Vol. 371 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Offices.

89.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason two social welfare offices, one at the Mall and another at Church View, Tuam, County Galway, are maintained and if he will state in relation to each the number of staff and the work undertaken.

One of the offices in question is in fact the property of the manager of the branch employment office who, as part of his contract, is responsible for the provision of premises and staff. There is a total of seven staff employed by the branch manager concerned and most of the functions of an employment exchange are carried out at this office, which is located at Church View.

The premises at the Mall accommodate two social welfare officers who deal mainly with investigation of means in relation to claimants for non-contributory pensions and unemployment assistance. The premises, which provide a base for the two outdoor officers, are used for interviewing claimants and for general office work.
