Written Answers. - County Wexford Schools.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding a proposed new ten teacher school (details supplied) in County Wexford; when approval will be given; and if she will expedite the matter in view of the many requests and representations relating to this school.

My Department have at present under consideration an application from the school authorities, for the provision of a new school to replace the existing national school in County Wexford referred to by the Deputy. The Department have agreed in principle to extend and improve the existing school. A decision on the matter will be conveyed to the school authorities at the earliest possible date. This must have regard to a recent review of enrolment trends carried out by my Department's primary inspectorate and to an architectural report which is being sought on the merits and costings of the solution proposed by the school to their accommodation difficulties.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the proposed extension to a primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford; when tenders will be invited; and when contract documents will be completed.

My Department have agreed to grant aid the provision of the proposed extension to the primary school referred to in County Wexford whereby the school is to be provided with three classrooms and a general purposes area. My Department expects to be in a position shortly to write to the school authorities conveying the formal sanction for the grant. The way will then be clear for the preparation of the tender documentation and this will be put in hands as soon as possible. I am not in a position, at this stage, to say when tenders will be invited or a contract placed.

asked the Minister for Education when the proposed extension to a primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford will be sanctioned in terms of inviting tenders.

The architectural work on the proposed extension of the primary school referred to in County Wexford is in the hands of a consultant engaged by the school authorities. My Department are awaiting the submission of working drawings, the preparation of which has been authorised. I am not in a position, at this stage, to say when tenders will be invited for the project.

asked the Minister for Education when the extension to a national school (details supplied) in County Wexford will commence; when tenders will be invited; and if the board of management will be informed.

My Department have arrangements in hands to invite tenders for the extension to the national school referred to in County Wexford. It is expected that the usual advertisements will shortly appear in the public press. The school authorities will be advised. I am not in a position to say, at this stage, when building works may commence.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position concerning the provision of additional accommodation at a national school (details supplied) in County Wexford; when this will be approved; and when construction will commence.

My Department's professional officers are examining the feasibility of providing an additional permanent classroom at the national school referred to in County Wexford. My Department will communicate further with the school authorities as soon as their report has been furnished. I am not in a position, at this stage, to say when construction will commence.
