Written Answers. - County Galway School.

178.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in building an extension to Letterfrack national school, County Galway.

179.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that her Department estimates the cost of building an extension to Letterfrack national school, County Galway at £70,000 while local contractor's estimate of the work £40,000; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

180.

asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be given for an extension to Letterfrack national school.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 178 to 180, inclusive, together.

Some detailed discussions were necessary between the authorities of Letterfrack national school, County Galway, and my Department on the question of the schedule of accommodation for the proposed extension to the school. Following recent agreement on this matter, my Department is now in a position to formally sanction a grant for the project and will shortly write to the school authorities in the matter. The project will then proceed to the preparation of tender documentation. It is not the practice of my Department to disclose the financial details of individual projects which are the subject of grant applications. This information is treated as confidential between the school authorities and my Department. I can, however, say that local contractors would have the opportunity in due course in tendering for the project, as tenders would be sought by notice in the public press.
