Vol. 371 No. 5

Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Weapons (Controls) Bill, 1987: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the entry into the State of vessels or aircraft carrying nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

This is a Private Members' Bill and I ask the Government to agree to it being taken as soon as possible.

This item must go into Private Members' time. If it is agreed to it will be put down for Second Stage in Private Members' Business. Is the Bill opposed?

I do not know about the Government side but it has implications for the Opposition parties. Perhaps they wish to——

I oppose this Bill.

The debate is adjourned in accordance with standing Orders to the next day on which Private Members' business is taken.

Could Deputy Dukes explain why he opposes the Bill?

Not now.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.
