Vol. 371 No. 5

Financial Resolutions, 1987. - Business of Dáil.

I raised a matter earlier this afternoon on foot of information that had been given to me, information which it now appears from my inquiries and from those you were good enough to make, Sir, was based on a misunderstanding. Therefore the problem, did not arise in the way I had thought. I apologise to the House for having put you to any inconvenience.

I am very grateful to the Deputy for having clarified the matter in such a gallant fashion.

Following discussions with the other party Whips it is proposed that Financial Resolutions Nos. 1 and 2 be taken together for the purpose of debate and the questions necessary to bring the proceedings thereon and on item No. 5 on today's Order Paper shall be put forthwith and successively not later than 11 p.m. this evening.

May I seek clarification in relation to Financial Resolution No. 3? Is this item No. 5 referred to in the Minister's proposal?

That would be on the general debate, the budget debate proper.

It is not clear what exactly is happening in relation to Financial Resolution No. 3. Do I take it that at 11 p.m. this evening Financial Resolutions Nos. 1, 2 and 3 will be put individually and agreement sought on them individually?

I will be calling on the Minister to formally move Financial Resolution No. 3. I will ask Members of the Opposition to move the adjournment of the debate and the debate will be so adjourned. That will be the commencement of debate on the budget proper, the General resolution.

Then, effectively the only matters on which we will be voting this evening will be Financial Resolutions Nos. 1 and 2?

And on motion No. 5, if necessary.

Is the Order, as announced by the Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach, agreed? Agreed. The Minister to move Financial Resolution No. 1.
