The following tables set out State expenditure in relation to agriculture and subsidies which were paid to farmers in the years 1982 to 1986. These tables are not mutually exclusive as some items arise under both headings.

These figures are composed of both capital and non-capital expenditure on agriculture and are net of appropriations-in-aid which include recoupments from the EEC.

Subsidies are non-capital payments made by central or local government or by EEC institutions to agricultural producers e.g. various livestock headage payments, grants for disposal of diseased animals, interest relief subsidy payments etc.
