Vol. 371 No. 6

Written Answers. - General Gough Statue.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements which are being made to have the John Foley equestrian statue of General Gough returned to this country; if an agreement for its return has been reached with the person to whom it was originally sold by the Office of Public Works; if the conditions of its return have been finalised; if not, if he will hold consultations with Dublin City Council to have the statue erected in a public place, adjacent to Mountjoy Square; if he will make the necessary arrangements to have this done in 1987 to commemorate both the millenium of Dublin city and the European Year of the Environment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Negotiations have taken place for the return of the Gough statue to this country, but they have yet to be concluded. Consequently the question of the re-erection of the statue does not arise at this time.
