I propose to take Questions Nos. 651, 652, 653 and 654 together.

Seventy-five schools applied to have a transition year for the first time from September 1987. These applications together with a further 77 received from the schools currently providing transition year programmes are being examined by my Department at present. I expect to be in a position very soon to advise all schools involved of the outcome of their applications. At this time no school has been advised as to their position in relation to September next.
