Vol. 372 No. 9

Written Answers. - Trans-Atlantic Airport.

17.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the policy, if any, the Government has in relation to the retention of Shannon Airport, County Clare, as the only transatlantic airport in the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is established Government policy that Shannon Airport is Ireland's sole transatlantic gateway and no change in this policy is envisaged.

All designated scheduled air carriers operating to/from Ireland across the North Atlantic are obliged to serve Shannon Airport in both directions. Similarly, all transatlantic charter carriers operating to/from Ireland are obliged to make one stop at Shannon on either the eastbound or westbound sector.
