Vol. 372 No. 10

Written Answers. - Environment Vote

182.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether in the course of 1986 the moneys provided for house improvement grants in the 1986 Estimates were insufficient to meet applications for such grants; the steps, if any, taken by his Department to prevent further applications for such grants being received and approved or to secure the provision of additional moneys by Supplementary Estimates or otherwise; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The £24 million provided in subhead D3 of the 1986 Environment Vote was sufficient up to early December 1986 to pay house improvement grant applications maturing for payment during that period. At that stage, saving on other areas of the Vote were transferred to subhead D 3 to pay applications maturing for payment in December 1986. No steps were taken by the Department to prevent the receipt or approval of grant applications.
