Vol. 372 No. 10

Written Answers. - Additional Post in Dublin School.

260.

asked the Minister for Education if a school (details supplied) in Dublin 7 is designated as serving a disadvantaged inner city area in Dublin 7; if so, in view of the grave need to maintain at least existing staff levels there, if she will ensure that the school retains the special teacher in September 1987; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

This school is included in my Department's special scheme for providing additional teaching assistance in schools serving disadvantaged areas, and has been allocated one teacher over and above its quota as determined by the average enrolment in the school. It also has a remedial teaching post.

Due to declining enrolments in the school, one assistant teaching post will be suppressed from 30 June 1987, in accordance with the Rules, should the appropriate retention average not be reached. However, the school would retain its concessionary post under the special scheme.
