asked the Minister for Finance the assurance, if any, he will give to householders who have been cutting turf for the past 50 years on the Marconi estate at Clifden, County Galway which has recently been taken over by the Office of Public Works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Commissioners of Public Works acquired the lands at Derrygimlagh in the Marconi estate in February 1980 from the Irish Land Commission. Prior to this time the Irish Land Commission let these lands under a bog rent schedule each year. The commissioners are now in the process of regularising turf cutting activities in the area and are arranging for the issue of licences to these people on the schedule with the assurance that the licences will issue annually if they comply with the terms therein.
