The grant will be paid within the next few weeks.

130.

asked the Minister for the Environment if approval can now be given for the £5,000 local authority surrender grant application made by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, which was submitted to his Department by Dublin Corporation, in view of the fact that (a) a deposit was paid by the resident before the relevant date and (b) the resident undertook commitments and was given to understand by the local authority that this grant would be available to him and he proceeded on this basis and that, accordingly, it appears that the criteria for making such grants have been met in this case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with the announcement of 3 April, the £5,000 surrender grant is payable if, on or before 24 March, the applicant had received provisional approval or had entered into a legally binding or irrevocable commitment. Applications for these grants are handled by the relevant local authority up to the stage of certification for payment. The appropriate certificate has not been received from the Dublin Corporation in the case referred to nor has the corporation referred the application to the Department.
