Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - Retail Grocery Market.

15.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the proposals from the Consumers' Association of Ireland relating to problems in the retail grocery market; and the plans, if any, he has to take action to deal with trends in this area which are not in the public interest.

I am aware of the proposals referred to by the Deputy and, in fact, I expect to meet the association later today to discuss the recommendations contained in the report of a special review carried out by the Restrictive Practices Commission into the operation of the Restrictive Practices (Groceries) Order, 1981.

I expect to be able to announce my decision on these recommendations shortly.
