Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - IDA Grant Aid to Foreign Firms.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of foreign firms which have been grant aided by the Industrial Development Authority in the last 20 years; the total amount of such grant aid; the proportion of such firms which have gone into liquidation; and the proportion which have left the country within a year of grant aid ceasing.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that since January 1967, 1,735 foreign firms have been approved grant aid. The total amount of grant aid approved in respect of these firms was £1,739 million of which £699 million has been paid to-date.

In the same period 342 foreign firms have closed. There is no record available of the proportion of grant-aided foreign firms which have left the country within a year of grant aid ceasing.
