Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - Services to Industry.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce since in the preface to Review of Industrial Performance 1986 by his Department, it is noted that an objective for public utilities operating in the commercial context will be to provide services to industry at a rate no higher than the EC average in general terms and with particular reference to electricity, the steps, if any, he is taking to implement this objective; the form in which he sees it taking; when benefits will accrue to industry from it; and the percentage reduction in electricity costs which will accrue therefrom.

As the Deputy is aware, the Minister for Energy has responsibility for the ESB and I have asked him to ensure that, in so far as electricity prices for manufacturing industry are concerned, any possible action which would reduce the price of electricity for manufacturing industry is taken. I will be maintaining very close contact with the Minister for Energy in this matter.
