Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - One-Stop Shops.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of one-stop shops, the number of inquiries which have increased from approximately 1,000 per month in 1985 to 2,000 per month by the middle of 1986, the percentage of these inquiries which have resulted in the development and setting up of new business, or the expansion of existing businesses; the nature of this activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The inquiries to which the Deputy refers include inquiries which relate to the non-traded services sector, which is not grant-aided by the Industrial Development Authority, and inquiries of a specialist nature which are referred to other agencies where appropriate.

In so far as the remaining inquiries are concerned, I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that, while all inquiries are followed up directly, statistics are not maintained which relate inquiries to actual projects. I should mention, however, that in the years 1985 and 1986 a total of 685 and 771 small industry projects respectively were approved for assistance across a wide range of industrial sectors.
