Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - Health Administration Costs.

79.

asked the Minister for Health the total direct and indirect payroll and other costs involved in health administration for 1986 and 1987.

The financial systems currently in place do not allow for the apportionment of full costs over any category of staff. Some 2 per cent of the total staff employed by the health agencies are involved in administration at the various regional headquarters. A further 8 per cent of the total staff are in administrative categories engaged in the direct delivery of services to patients either in the institutions or in community care. These grades of staff will be subjected to the same level of reduction in 1987 as other grades.
