Vol. 372 No. 12

Written Answers. - Registration Service.

90.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement concerning rationalisation of procedures of registration activities in Joyce House; and whether this has resulted in this service covering its costs from the charge for certificates.

The service previously provided at the Custom House by Oifig An Ard-Chláraitheor (General Register Office) as the central authority for registration and that provided at 191 Pearse Street by the Dublin City and County Superintendent Registrar (Eastern Health Board) are now provided from the one location at Joyce House, 8-11 Lombard Street East, Dublin 2. Improved procedures and facilities have been introduced which enable a quicker and more efficient service to be given to the public.

The cost of the service is not currently covered by the fees received for birth, death and marriage certificates. The fees are kept under regular review and ultimately it is hoped to make the service as self-financing as possible.

asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, there are to give his Department authority to register hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and other private facilites offering health services to the public.

I am considering at the moment the whole question of the desirability of the formal registration of hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. My examination of the matter has not yet been completed.
