Vol. 373 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cork Hospitals Rationalisation.

277.

asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has for the rationalisation of services within the voluntary hospitals in County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the proposed amalgamation between the Mercy Hospital, Cork and the North Infirmary Hospital, Cork.

On 19 May last I informed the Dáil of my intention to carry out a speedy review of all acute hospital services in the country. This review which has now commenced will involve an examination of the role of each acute hospital and will, of course, include the Mercy Hospital and the North Infirmary, Cork. Pending the completion of this review I will not be in a position to make any statement on individual hospitals.
